The Messenger of Allah (Sm) said: “Don’t revile my companions, for by the One in Whose hand is my soul, if one of you were to spend the equivalent of Uhud in gold, it would not amount to a mudd of one of them, or half of that”
(Bukhari 3673, Muslim 2540)
People are not worried for themselves in the same way they are worried about next generations for the sake of Islam.
People are making efforts to construct institutions in order to keep next generations in the way of Islam. However they don’t make serious effort similarly to keep themselves improved (by uplifting their skillsets bestowed by Almighty)!
Sahabas (peace be upon them) struggled and put much effort to keep themselves changed and productive (dayee or leader or model character for their area of expertise) very quickly. Their generations stayed on the right track following their footsteps. They didn’t care about building institutions, rather they left behind legacy of their lives as examples for next generations. In other words, many of them turned to ‘Institutes’ themselves eventually.
Year after year passes by. Do we see subtle and exemplary changes among us? What legacy can we leave behind for the next generation?
