Just like Allah protected the sleepers through the cave, the Book (Al Quran) will shelter us in a similar manner. Therefore, as soon as the story of the sleepers concludes, Allah tells the Prophet (sm) to recite His book in the very next verse. As such, there is an indication that our protection – our metaphorical cave – will be by reciting the Quran:
“Recite what has been revealed to you from the Book of your Lord. None can change His Words, nor can you find any refuge besides Him.” (Kahaf: 27)
And this is exactly what our Prophet (sm) did when he went on the Hijrah. He recited the Quran as he left and it literally blinded the Qurayesh such that they could not see him. And there are many instances of the Prophet (sm) reciting the Quran to seek the protection of Allah.
Allah says, “And Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord; none can alter (Literally: none can be an falterer) His Words; and apart from Him, you will never find any shielding.” (Kahf: 27)
Narrated Muhammad bin Ka’b Al-Qurazi: “I heard ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud saying: ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “[Whoever recites a letter] from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter. (Tirmidhi: 2910, Hasan)
